Birth Doula Services

What is a Birth Doula?

A Birth Doula is a professional support provider who understands and trusts the process of birth, respects its transcendent and sacred aspects, as well as its physical and emotional aspects, and who facilitates the birth experience for the parents, baby, and primary care providers. Families can also seek support postpartum during the early weeks and months to help ease the transition of welcoming a new baby into the home.

The word Doula in Ethiopian (dula ) translates to "walking stick". This so beautifully describes the role of a Birth Doula: a steady support for expectant parents prenatally, during labor and birth, and postpartum.

Description of Services

As your Birth Doula I will:

  • Meet with you and your support team prenatally to discuss and create your birth intentions.

  • Help educate you on your options, common procedures and policies at your birthing facility, and best practices for self care during your pregnancy.

  • Serve as a physical support during your labor with pain management and comfort techniques such as movement, positioning, and basic body work.

  • Work with you and your support team in making decisions during labor that both support the health and safety of you and your baby as well as stay closely aligned with your birth preferences.

  • Visit with you at home during the early postpartum time period to offer emotional, logistical, physical, and practical support with your healing.

  • Connect you with the most skilled professionals in the area for any additional support you may need or benefit from during pregnancy, birth and labor, and postpartum.

  • If desired, take photos of your labor and birth experience.

My intention is to support mothers in experiencing the brilliance of birth on their terms, fully embodied in their own power.

As a yoga teacher, I also offer combined Doula & Prenatal Yoga packages to see you through the duration of  your pregnancy as well as postpartum.

Postpartum Doula Services

What is a Postpartum Doula?

A Postpartum Doula is a knowledgable professional who assists families during the critical period immediately after the birth of their baby. They "mother the mother" and offer physical, emotional, and informational support to the family as well as practical help. The Postpartum Doula's expertise in mother and baby care enable her to assist with postpartum comfort measures, breastfeeding support, non-judgmental guidance in infant care techniques, information on normal postpartum restoration, and family emotional assistance through this major transition.

Description of Services

As your Postpartum Doula I will come to your home to care for the mother during her physical recovery and emotional transition after childbirth. This includes a wide range of offered services such as:

  • Drawing herbal baths for mom.

  • Breastfeeding support.

  • Care for baby while mom is napping, showering, resting.

  • Providing sibling care.

  • Education in basic infant care.

  • Supporting in household management tasks (preparing meals, food prep, organization, laundry etc.)

  • Overall being an extra set of trained, caring, supportive hands as the family as a whole adjusts to having the new baby at home.

Additionally, I am trained to know when things are not progressing normally and how to utilize resources and suggest referrals for help when appropriate. I have a deep respect for the family structure and am skilled in providing information and help in a way that empowers the new parents to care for their own baby while at the same time offering guidance and support.

Once approved by the mother's care provider, I also offer private, in-home, postpartum yoga to support the process of healing.
